PowerHA SystemMirror communication path and the CuAt inet0 persistent hostname does not match.

PowerHA SystemMirror communication path and the CuAt inet0 persistent hostname does not match.

PowerHA SystemMirror communication path and the CuAt inet0 persistent hostname does not match.

* Normally this kind of error we are facing at the time PowerHA systemMirror migration Prerequisties.
* PowerHA systemMirror clmigcheck utility deducting this kind of errors.
* If suppose we are not resolving this issue, we will not able to perform PowerHA SystemMirror 6.1 to 7.1 migration.

Error Message:

ERROR: an inconsistency has been discovered between the PowerHA SystemMirror
       communication path and the CuAt inet0 persistent hostname on node
       "NODE2"

       PowerHA SystemMirror Communication Path: NODE2boot
       CuAt inet0 Persistent Hostname: NODE2

These values are expected to match.

Problem Identification:

* Actually we did major mistake at the time of HACMP 6.1 configuration.
* If we are not resolving this problem. we will not able to perform PowerHA SystemMirror Migration.

Why this Error displayed at the time of clmigcheck.

For example i have to configure two NODE’s HACMP 6.1 cluster.

My /etc/hosts entry as per below.

NODE1+NODE2:# cat /etc/hosts
192.168.1.1 NODE1
192.168.1.1 NODE2
10.10.10.1 NODE1BOOT
10.10.10.2 NODE2BOOT
192.168.1.100 NODESVC

We have to mention our persistent hostname is our cluster node name. and choose nodes communication path is your persistent IP Address for each nodes.

But by default we are choosing nodes boot IP Address for cluster nodes communication interface.
Actually this is wrong. but our cluster will work why because boot IP address pinging to each other.
Problem is We will not able to perform HACMP 6.1 to 7.1 migration why because PowerHA 7.1 not supporting network based boot IP configuration. PowerHA 7.1 totally SAN based network communication.

Note:

Don’t change dynamically Cluster Nodes Name or hostname of the system. in HACMP 6.1 this feadures not available. suppose if your are changed HACMP will be crashed. there is no option to recover cluster configuration.

Solution for the Problem:

At the time of HACMP cluster nodes configuration mention system persistent host name is your cluster node name and communication path is persistent IP address.

Note:

PowerHA systemMirror 7.1.3 allowing dynamic hostname and nodes name changes.

As per our host entry:

NODE1+NODE2:# cat /etc/hosts
192.168.1.1 NODE1      ---->NODE1 Persistent IP Address
192.168.1.1 NODE2      ---->NODE2 Persistent IP Address
10.10.10.1 NODE1BOOT   ---->NODE1 BOOT IP Address
10.10.10.2 NODE2BOOT   ---->NODE2 BOOT IP Address
192.168.1.100 NODESVC ---->Applicaton Server IP Address

For Cluster NODE1 configuration.

NODE1# smitty hacmp
-> Extended Configuration
  -> Extended Topology Configuration
     -> Configure HACMP Nodes
	 Node Name : NODE1 ---->NODE1 Persistent system hostname
	 Communication Path to Node : 192.168.1.1[NODE1] ---->NODE1 Persistent system IP Adddress

For Cluster NODE2 Configuration.

NODE1# smitty hacmp
-> Extended Configuration
  -> Extended Topology Configuration
     -> Configure HACMP Nodes
	 Node Name : NODE2 ---->NODE2 Persistent system hostname
	 Communication Path to Node : 192.168.1.2[NODE2] ---->NODE2 Persistent system IP Adddress

Note:

We can verify PowerHA SystemMirror communication path and the CuAt inet0 persistent hostname.

CuAt inet0 Persistent Hostname:

NODE1:# lsattr -El inet0 | grep -i hostname
hostname  NODE1  Host  Name  True
NODE2:# lsattr -El inet0 | grep -i hostname
hostname  NODE2  Host  Name  True

PowerHA SystemMirror communication path:

NODE1+NODE2:# odmget HACMPnode | grep -p COMM

HACMPnode:
      name = "NODE1"
      object = "COMMUNICATION_PATH"
      value = "192.168.1.1"
      node_id = 3
      node_handle = 3
      version = 11

HACMPnode:
     name = "NODE2"
     object = "COMMUNICATION_PATH"
     value = "192.168.1.2"
     node_id = 4
     node_handle = 4
     version = 11

Note:

In PowerHA 6.1 COMMUNICATION_PATH may be show as IP Address that is ok.

Result:

PowerHA SystemMirror communication path and the CuAt inet0 persistent hostname does not match problem  successfully resolved.
