HACMP 6.1 Configuration Prerequisites

When ever we are going to configure IBM Power HACMP 6.1 first we need make readiness below mentioned resource details.

Simple Definitions for HACMP Address

Persistent IP’s:
Persistent IP’s is nothing but administrator address.
It’s only used for administrator purpose for Aix operating installation/ software installation and HACMP configurations etc.
It is did n’t make any major changes on HACMP cluster.
it is just like one IP Address we need put entry on /etc/hosts file and define into the Power HA Configuration.

Boot IP Address:

It is HACMP Cluster Intercommunication Address.
All the HACMP related topology configuration synchronizing between two nodes because of this Address only.
Mainly it’s used for HACMP Cluster configuration purpose.
Note :
1. This is Non rout-able IP Address.
2. It’s communicating with in the subnet hosts only.
3. Service IP Address VLAN configuration and Boot IP Interface VLAN configuration should be same.
4. Service IP Address Subnet mask and Boot IP interface Subnet mask should be same.
So it means service IP address and boot IP address we are going to configure on same interface.
This Boot IP interface can only move service IP address between two clusters using IPAT Alias method.

Service IP Address:

Service IP is nothing but application server IP.
Application running on this IP.
at the application end user every one can access this IP.
This IP address will be movable to between cluster nodes at the time of cluster node failure.
HACMP Standby Configuration Definition:
Standby configuration is the traditional redundant Hardware and software configuration where one or more standby nodes stand idle. and it’s waiting for a server node to leave the cluster.

HACMP Basic Requirements:

Operating System Setup:
Install and Configure the same OS level (AIX-6.1-TL2-SP1,AIX-7.1 or higher version ) of both two HACMP Nodes.
Configure the Host name and mirror the rootvg or verify the rootvg path redundancy.
Storage Setup:
Need shared storage LUNS on both the nodes.
Minimum Requirements for Data VG: 1 or 2 Disks with any size.
Minimum Requirements for HEARTBEAT VG : 1 disk with 1GB Size.

Network Setup:
In our standby setup we have two cluster nodes.
One is active node and another one is standby node.
1. Two boot IP address used for cluster intercommunication which is non rout-able.
2. A service Ip address required for application purpose which is movable to between the cluster node.
3. And two persistent address for our two cluster nodes Administrator access purpose which is not part off the HA cluster.

Host Entry Setup :
on both the HACMP node we have make entry for HA Configuration.

node1+node2:#vi /etc/hosts
#######Service IP##########
192.168.1.3 svcnode
#######Persistent IP's####
192.168.1.1 node1
192.168.1.2 node2
#########BootIP############
10.1.1.15 node1boot
10.1.1.16 node2boot

Note:
Don’t use hyphens (-) and underscores (_) in IP labels here.
Software Setup:
Check some basic standard AIX installation File-sets.

node1+node2:# lslpp -l | grep -i bos.net.nfs.server
node1+node2:# lslpp -l | grep -i bos.clvm
node1+node2:# lslpp -l | grep -i rsct.compat.basic.hacmp
node1+node2:# lslpp -l | grep -i rsct.compat.clients.hacmp

Installation of HACMP File-sets:
Install HACMP file stets and update into latest service pack.
Note : Update into software level.

node1+node2:# smitty install_latest

Verify the Installed HACMP File Sets:

node1+node2:# lslpp -l | grep -i cluster.es.client
node1+node2:# lslpp -l | grep -i cluster.es.server
node1+node2:# lslpp -l | grep -i cluster.es.cfs
node1+node2:# lslpp -l | grep -i cluster.es.nfs
node1+node2:# lslpp -l | grep -i cluster.es.cspoc
node1+node2:# lslpp -l | grep -i cluster.license
node1+node2:# lslpp -l | grep -i cluster.man.en_US.es
Set HACMP path on both the nodes take reboot
node1+node2:# vi /etc/profile #export PATH=$PATH:/usr/es/sbin/cluster:/usr/es/sbin/cluster/utilities:/usr/es/sbin/cluster/sbin:/usr/es/sbin/cluster/cspoc
node1+node2:# shutdown -Fr now

IP Configuration Setup:

node1:# ifconfig -a
en0: 192.168.1.1 255.255.255.0 VLAN:100
en1: 10.1.1.15   255.255.255.0 VLAN:100
node2:# ifconfig -a
en0: 192.168.1.2 255.255.255.0 VLAN:100
en1: 10.1.1.16   255.255.255.0 VLAN:100

    but i have a question on these lines :
    Service IP Address VLAN configuration and Boot IP Interface VLAN configuration should be same.
    4. Service IP Address Subnet mask and Boot IP interface Subnet mask should be same.
    but in your host file admin ip and service ip are same:
    #######Service IP##########
    192.168.1.3 svcnode
    #######Persistent IP’s####
    192.168.1.1 node1
    192.168.1.2 node2
    #########BootIP############
    10.1.1.15 node1boot
    10.1.1.16 node2boot
